Plug-n-Play, powered by Genesis
About this video
Genesis began as a way to make OneStream faster to configure, and over the past year it has evolved into something far more significant: a plug-and-play architecture that distills expert platform knowledge into reusable building blocks, removing the friction that has historically stood between a Finance team and a working solution. What started with a faster, more intuitive CubeView expanded into layouts, advanced dashboards, toolbars, and reusable components, and then took an unexpected leap into complete, dynamic, in-memory models built in minutes across planning, close, operations, analytics, and administration. The next chapter doubles down on that momentum with AI-assisted selection, configuration, and navigation, making the platform accessible to more people without requiring deep technical expertise to get started.
Key takeaways
- Genesis is not about new capabilities. It is about removing friction from the ones already there. The core insight behind plug-and-play architecture is that most Finance teams already have what they need inside OneStream. The barrier is not capability; it is the expertise required to find the right pieces and assemble them correctly. Genesis distills that expert knowledge into building blocks anyone can use, turning a blank page and a real problem into a working solution faster than ever before.
- The evolution from components to complete models changed what Finance teams believe is possible. The progression from CubeView parameters to waterfall charts to full layouts and dashboards was fast. The leap to dynamic, in-memory models built in minutes across every major Finance workflow was unexpected even for the Genesis team. Each step expanded what could be built and who could build it, compressing implementation timelines and broadening access across the Finance organization.
- AI-assisted configuration is the next layer that makes Genesis accessible to everyone. By embedding AI guidance into selection, configuration, and navigation, Genesis removes the remaining barriers for users who know what they need but are unsure how to build it. Structure matters because the frame tells the story, and AI assistance ensures that more Finance professionals can build the right frame without depending on a specialist to do it for them.

I started my career in training and deliver training for several years and not necessarily because I loved talking about software but I loved the moments where things would really click for our customers.
They would come in with a real problem and a blank page and a lot of pressure and what energized me was helping them realize that they have everything that they need in one stream. It's just a matter of finding the right pieces and the right ways to put it together.
This is where I got intrigued by Genesis and got even more excited to join the Genesis team because Genesis is not about introducing new capabilities. Genesis is about removing friction. It's about taking this expert knowledge and distilling it into building blocks that make real problems easier to solve.
It's with that mindset that making problems easier to solve is what led us to the concept of plug and play and plug and play architecture. And one year ago we sat up on this stage and we introduced the concept of plug and play architecture.
And I will say for the last year it's been quite a ride. So I want to take a minute and just show you guys where Genesis started, where it's at today, and where it's headed. With Genesis, a year ago we started with the CubeView, the backbone of the one stream experience.
Then something clicked. The parameters just worked. Then we looked at analytics. A waterfall chart. Built in seconds. People noticed. But speed was just the beginning. Layouts. Advanced dashboards. Toolbars.
Reusable components. Not just parts. But complete experiences. Then something unexpected happened. We went from views. To layouts. To entire models. Dynamic. In memory. Built in minutes. Cross planning.
Close. Operations. Analytics. Administration. More content. So we're doubling down on making it even easier. AI-assisted selection. AI-assisted configuration. AI-assisted navigation. Because structure matters.
The frame tells the story. This is Genesis. This is OneStream.
